Speech Language Pathologist (SLP): adding vital diagnostic information to meet student’s needs:

The region has provided some increased Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) time allocation to Nundah State School , so that our school now receives approximately seven days per term.

The SLP’s role includes providing services such as speech/language assessment, therapy, program planning and professional development, pertaining to students who are having difficulty accessing the curriculum which may be related to underlying communication difficulties.

The SLP may look at one, some or all of the following when a student is referred:

  • Language comprehension/understanding language
  • Expressive language
  • Phonological/sound awareness
  • Speech production
  • Social communication

The school negotiates with the SLP, through the Student With Additional Needs (SWAN) team, a regular (usually on a term basis) SLP service plan to allow for identified students to be considered for services through a formal prioritization process.
