Valuing volunteers

At Nundah State School, we provide an environment that allows all children to learn to the best of their ability and we simply couldn't do it without our generous-hearted volunteers. For almost 150 years, parents and members of the community have helped us become one of the best primary schools in Brisbane’s inner north.

Nundah State School acknowledges and values the role parents and
the broader community play in the education of our students. As such, we welcome and encourage parents and other community members to become a part of school life
by volunteering to support school activities, including student learning experiences.

Volunteer recruitment process

Our Handbook for Volunteers provides information to parents and community members who may be interested in volunteering within the school to both contribute to our community and to maximise student learning. Our school policy and relevant departmental policies are included. Further information can be obtained by contacting the School Principal on (07) 3635 5888 or  admin@nundahss.eq.edu.au. This booklet includes agreement forms which need to be completed before you begin to assist us, and are available online, in the office and in your classroom.

The final two agreement pages of this document are required to be signed and returned to the School Office prior to commencing as a volunteer.

Due to the nature of our work, some volunteer opportunities may require you to complete police and working with children checks if you are not a parent of one of our students. This process can take from 4-8 weeks once your application has been received.

Blue Card

There have been some important changes to Blue Card Requirements in schools.

Parent volunteers will require blue cards in the following instances:

  • if participating in services or activities that do not include their own child

  • if attending overnight excursions or camps

  • if close personal contact may occur with another child (such as assisting with toileting, bathing or dressing).

Parents will also require a Blue Card if volunteering to assist with excursions and swimming activities.

To help ensure that the requirements for a Blue Card are clear, we have put together a table for your reference.

To apply for a Blue Card on-line, please go to Blue Card Services External link Once your application is submitted, you will need to provide the school with your Blue Card Services account number and date of birth to be linked as one of our volunteers. Once you are linked to the school, you will receive an email to finish your application.

If you require any assistance please contact Blue Card Services on 1800 113 611 or via this link: Contact Blue Card Services External link

If you already have a Blue Card, this will need to be provided to the school with your date of birth so you can be linked to the school.

For any school related enquiries please contact us on 3635 5888 or email admin@nundahss.eq.edu.au

A reminder that all visitors to the school must sign in at the office upon arrival.

Thank you for your support in helping to keep our students safe.
