Which iPad do I choose?
We recommend the most recent generation of the standard iPad to last you for the duration of the BYO program. This is currently the iPad (A16) – 11th Generation.
We will support any of the following iPad models:
- iPad - 8th Generation or higher
- iPad Air 4th Generation or higher, including iPad Air (M2) and (M3)
- iPad Pro 11" 1st generation or higher
iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd generation or higherPlease note: Due to the screen size not meeting recommendations by the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority, we do not support the use of the iPad Mini models. Device minimum requirements
Storage: Minimum 64GBA higher level of storage is more beneficial in the long term. Connection: We strongly recommend the WIFI only models.Cellular models can allow your child to bypass the Department internet filtering and monitoring.Operating System:Students will need an iPad that is capable of running the latest version of iPadOS (operating system for iPad) and school required Apps. Cases and Sleeves - REQUIREDA protective case is essential . We strongly recommend a cover that:- absorbs shocks from accidental drops
- protects the screen
Protecting your child's iPad is something we all need to be concerned about. The majority of cases are not designed for school students – they are designed for adults. A stylish or attractive case may look appealing but not fulfil the need to protect your investment.
Some users prefer a protective cover and also use a padded travel sleeve over the top. The iPad never leaves its cover but is slipped out of the travel sleeve when it is in use in the student's classroom.
Keyboards - REQUIRED
The use of an external keyboard over the on-screen keyboard greatly assists with typing skill development, speed of word processing and is hugely beneficial for ergonomic reasons. This may be part of a keyboard folio case or a separate wired/wireless keyboard.
Headphones - REQUIRED
Headphones with an in-built microphone will be more beneficial as they can be used for clearer recordings. If purchasing wired headphones, an adaptor may be required as most iPad models now have a USB-C connection.
Stylus - OPTIONAL
Students may use an Apple Pencil, Logitech Crayon or other stylus. These are not mandatory.
