English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D)

Over 30 cultural backgrounds are represented among Nundah State School’s students, providing a rich and diverse community. At Nundah State School we have a very welcoming teacher and special classroom for our English as a n Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) students where they come for intensive English language learning support, using teacher expertise and available ICT digital tools.

EAL/D students are those whose first language is a language or dialect other than English. Students may require additional support to assist them to develop proficiency in the acquisition of the English language. The EAL/D Teacher is at the school two days to promote and provide quality curriculum programs that offer appropriate support strategies for these students. The focus is on assisting students to access and meet the core demands of the national curriculum with additional scaffolding and support.

Students with English language development needs may be funded for additional support for their first 3 years in primary school in Australia. Should parents and carers require assistance, the school is able to contact the translating and interpreting services to arrange for on-site or telephone interpreting.
