One of the positive features of the iPad Program is the time
spent with students to enable them to become responsible digital citizens. All
students in the iPad Program will undergo learning in cyber safety, cyber
bullying awareness and digital and media literacy. This is ongoing and designed
to make our students safer online, especially as they transition to high
school.
While Cyber Safety is embedded in the Australian Curriculum,
particularly in Health and Physical Education and Digital Technologies, our
class teachers also provide standalone lessons to help students develop their
understanding and skills in how to be safe and smart online. These include topics such as password
security, responsible online behaviour, digital footprints and healthy
technology habits.
Being a digital citizen is more than just being safe online.
Students learn that their behaviour in digital spaces should align with common
social expectations, just as it would in a classroom or a larger community.
Teachers will exercise their duty of care in class, but aligned with our Choice
Theory approach, is the expectation that students will take responsibility for
their own actions. It's important for parents to help their children grasp this
responsibility as they use devices at home as well as school.
To support parents and carers at home, we encourage you to
explore the following resources and the information in the following section on
iPads at Home that provides specific tips on setting up expectations with your
child, messaging and Screen Time and Parental controls.
