Valuing volunteers
At Nundah State School, we provide an environment that allows all children to learn to the best of their ability and we simply couldn't do it without our generous-hearted volunteers. For almost 150 years, parents and members of the community have helped us become one of the best primary schools in Brisbane’s inner north.
Nundah State School acknowledges and values the role parents and
the broader community play in the education of our students. As such, we welcome and encourage parents and other community members to become a part of school life
by volunteering to support school activities, including student learning experiences.
DETE policy
There has always been an expectation that visitors, contractors or volunteers – including P&C members, at a state school act in an appropriate manner. Parents rightly expect that anyone visiting a state school will not compromise the safety or education of the students, and that the department will not engage with people or organisations who do not comply with the appropriate behaviour.
In 2011 the department assisted the Queensland Council of Parents and Citizens Association (QCPCA) to develop its constitutional model, which includes an agreement by members to abide by the Department’s Code of Conduct.
P&C members (including executive officers committee members, volunteers and parent representatives) should comply with the Code of Conduct as a model for all P&C associations across Queensland maintains consistency in expectations and standards of behaviour, and promotes the highest possible quality learning environment for all students.
If a breach of the Code occurs at a state school, visitors (including P&C members) can’t be disciplined under the Public Service Act the same way a public servant would be, but organisations and individuals may be excluded from the department premises or from further engagement in department activities.

Our Handbook for Volunteers provides information to parents and community members who may be interested in volunteering within the school to both contribute to our community and to maximise student learning. Our school policy and relevant departmental policies are included. Further information can be obtained by contacting the School Principal on (07) 3635 5888 or admin@nundahss.eq.edu.au. This booklet includes agreement forms which need to be completed before you begin to assist us, and are available online, in the office and in your classroom.
The final two agreement pages of this document are required to be signed and returned to the School Office prior to commencing as a volunteer.
Due to the nature of our work, some volunteer opportunities may require you to complete police and working with children checks if you are not a parent of one of our students. This process can take from 4-8 weeks once your application has been received.
