Homework provides students with opportunities to consolidate and revise their learning and may offer ways to apply what is being learnt in the classroom in other contexts.
We recognise the need for students to have time for a balanced lifestyle, and when
considering homework, we acknowledge that sufficient time needs to be available for family, physical activity, sport, recreational, community and cultural activities.
At Nundah State School:
• every child will read, or be read to daily (differentiated to individual needs and age)
• each year level will develop homework routines which may include:
- homework grids with a variety of activities that students can choose to complete
- revision of learning completed in class
- pursuing knowledge individually and imaginatively (investigating, researching, writing, designing, making)
- applying knowledge and skills in new contexts eg. cooking – reading and
- following recipes, measuring ingredients, fractions, safety, healthy food choices
- preparing for upcoming learning or tasks (collecting materials, practising oral presentations)
Homework is not mandatory, and we respect the preferences of individual families and circumstances.
